I have no idea why we continue to hate people who are in anyway different to ourselves. Is it a fear response? My white mum married my father, a man of mixed race, and made sure I was very aware of racism. It all begins with parenting.
My hunch is that we have an inborn (evolutionary) sense of both caution and curiosity about others, and as you say our parents can nurture that for good or for bad. And our parents better do a good job, because when we grow up, idiot activists on both sides will harp on the negative half of that equation to score points.
Thar just shows, how, we’re, socialized, to, discriminate one another…

Kids are the best. We could learn a lot if we just watched and listened to them.

Anything is possible before we indoctrinate the next generations; afterwards, they are destined to untangle the mess for the rest of their lives.
